First Generation - Johann Friederick Kreitlow (1822-1900) |
|
|
|
1. Johann Friederick Albert Kreitlow was born and died in Shivelbein, Germany.
Johann married Auguste Wilhelmine Friederike Duft (1831-1885). They had eight children.
Of the six sons, five came to America, as did the son of the boys who stayed in Germany. The two girls also stayed in Germany. Apparently, a disinclination toward mandatory conscription played a role in the sons' decision to seek a new start in America.

As you can see, there are links to the children of August and Herman... and there will be more information coming soon on the children of Wilhelm and Richard.
But there is no information available on the lives and children of Karl, Robert, Anna or Auguste.
There are many Kreitlows out there who may come from one of Johann's children, but that is research still to be done. Hope you can help us! |

While it appears that not every Kreitlow comes from Johann and Wilhelmine Kreitlow of Shivelbein, there certainly are a lot of descendants from this couple and their eight children. This is where I'll be spending a lot of my research time: trying to find their descendants. To me, it'll be like putting together a big puzzle... without knowing how many pieces are involved!
Because so many generations have passed already, you might be part of Johann's clan and not even know it. You might only be able trace yourself back to one of their children or grandchildren. I hope the constant trickle of information that I can gather will help you see if you're one of these many pieces.
Even if you're not part of this direct line, you're still part of the Kreitlow gathering project.

Source: Much of the information on this website came from the research of Burt Kreitlow, who passed much of it to me in late 1999. Burt spends his summers in Grand Marais, Minn. and his winters in Hawaii. This information will be continually researched and adjusted. |
